River Wye Canoe Hire and Guided Adventure Sessions

want to canoe? is ideally situated on the banks of the River Wye here on the farm run by family members Aubrey and Clare.  The farm, as well as arable and pasture also offers a gorgeous mile-stretch of riverbank incorporating two Canoe Access Points with the main one being adjacent to Hay Bridge at the bottom of the farm. If you have your own canoes, kayaks or suchlike then as our guests here at the farm you are more than welcome to launch/land at either Access Point and also pick our brains about the best routes, stop-overs and transport links.

If you don't have your own canoes then we warmly invite you to hire a canoe from us and discover the beauty of the River Wye. The Wye is by far one of the most beautiful rivers in the British Isles and one of the few you can navigate by canoe, without restriction, for well over 100 miles. want to canoe? offer you the chance to embark on a relaxing river adventure from several different points along the way, with an array of different routes to choose from, all with their own unique sights, sounds and smells.

From its source at the Welsh mountains at Plynlimon, the water meanders through miles of picturesque countryside and diverse wildlife, passing the bustling market towns of Hay-on-Wye, Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth; the city of Hereford, and the charming, picture-postcard villages of Glasbury, Symonds Yat and Tintern, before joining the River Severn at Chepstow.

Along your journey, you can expect to see a number of spectacular and fascinating characters in their natural habitats, including kingfishers, herons, cormorants, swans and otters – all from the prime viewpoint of your canoe.

This peaceful and ever-changing setting is the ideal place to wile away a few hours, spend a day or even a week. Furthermore, what better way to get a bit of aerobic and cardiovascular exercise than canoeing the Wye? Burning calories has never been so relaxing!

Canoe Hire is available 7 days a week from April to October but if you're looking for something more interactive or are lacking in confidence and experience then one of our Go Canoeing Guided Adventure Sessions might suit you better; these are scheduled on most days during the spring, summer and autumn school holidays or can be arranged on a date to suit your group outside these holidays.

Having our British Canoeing qualified team as your guides gives you the benefit of being able to learn basic canoe-skills, play games and make the most out of the new skills you've learnt, also take in the scenery and wildlife more easily as you have a guide showing you what to look out for and you are not simply concentrating on keeping the canoe in a straight line as you've got some basic technique from the outset!   If you've canoed before they can also help you expand upon and work on technique, they adapt easily to the needs of the group. The instructors paddle their own canoes so they can wizz about amongst the group, you then choose the boat format that suits your group on the day (we have single, tandem and rafted options).  Here’s a link to our gallery which includes some pics from some of their guided trips to give you an idea!

All trips are inclusive of:

Transport to and from designated access points up and down the river (you paddle downstream – we bring you back)

Spacious Riverside Site here on the farm including car park, toilets and changing, grassy picnic area and only a 5-minute walk from Hay Town Centre - this is exclusive to our customers

Price is of-course inclusive of all canoe-kit - use of paddles, buoyancy aids, dry-bags, barrels and waterproof maps

Complimentary freshly ground coffee or builders/earl-grey tea on arrival

Canoeing neatly goes hand-in-hand with all sorts of other adventures. . . Clare and Aubrey have hand-picked a selection of locally-grown, first-class activity providers to visit the farm each summer and make your holidays even more memorable. This year Fred from Interactivities sets up Archery Sessions by the river and Sam from Rooted Forest School inhabits some secluded patches of the woodland for bush-craft and survival groups.

If you're really keen to get stuck in to some or all of these offerings then do be sure to check when booking your accommodation/camping that they are running during the dates of your trip.

If you'd like to venture further afield and off the farm then Clare will happily recommend other local treats such as horse-riding, bike-hire, gorge-walking, caving, paint-balling, excellent foot-paths, waterfalls, glass-blowing, beautiful gardens, historic sights and buildings, book-shops, art galleries, tea-rooms, pub lunches, unique dining experiences... the list is endless in this magical part of the world!

Canoeing on the River Wye

We invite you to ‘get away from it all’ and discover the beauty of the River Wye.

The Wye is one of the most beautiful rivers in the British Isles and one of the few you can navigate, without restriction, for over 100 miles. It meanders through picturesque countryside to where it joins the River Severn at Chepstow and is well populated with wild life. Herons, Cormorants, Kingfishers, Swans and Otters are frequently seen.

This peaceful setting is the ideal place to spend a few hours, a day or even a week.

Hire a canoe, Leave your car on our free riverside car-park, Take a picnic (can be supplied by us by prior arraingment) and canoe downstream. We pick you up, Free of Charge, from one of the designated access points and return you to your car. Should you have any distance to travel to return home, bring along a change of clothing in case you get wet!

Wear something old to paddle in, together with old trainers, sandals or ‘crocs’ – NO WELLINGTONS and don’t forget your sun-cream and hat if it is sunny.

If you decide to go for a few days or a week we can provide you with details of camp-sites and directions to the nearest pub for an evening meal. Again, we pick you up at the end of your holiday and bring you back to Hay and your car. For those who prefer home comforts, we also have B&B and Glamping options.

(It is advisable for people to have had some experience before going on the river – particularly those taking children).

Please telephone Aubrey or Clare on 01497 820604
Please pre-book your canoes to avoid disappointment here.
