THE SOUL SHACK – HANNAH BEETHAM

Hannah first came to yoga at a time when she felt rudderless and had a pretty negative relationship with her body, a job that undervalued its staff (never again, hospitality!) and all the good stuff just seemed out of her grasp. Her Nana had practiced yoga for her adult life  and had sworn it did wonders for her health, so Hannah thought she'd give it a bash. She hated her first class. It was slow and boring and talked about breathing, which everyone does… But because she had paid for a block of classes she went back. And again... and again... This started a pretty epic adventure, in which she had some travels, learned to respect and nourish her body and started to shift her perceptions and mindset, calming her monkey-mind and embarking on a 3 year yoga teacher training program, which in turn led her to study as a complementary therapist to try and give more of that feel-good stuff to the people that needed it.

Trained through the British Wheel of Yoga (500 hrs), Hannah’s yoga teaching gently works to stretch muscles and work on breathing, which in turn brings oxygen to the muscles and calms the nervous system. Hannah has taught yoga at festivals, parks, studios, corporate venues, charities and halls as well as one to one sessions to people with a range of issues, from fibromyalgia and chronic pain to mental health issues. She doesn’t know everything (but loves a bit of research) and believes in an honest approach to teaching, trying to make yoga as accessible as possible with her (sometimes questionable) humour, practical, safe approach and firm belief that both complementary therapies and yoga are for everyone and every body.

Hannah holds yoga classes at Larchwood. Book her directly for 1:1, private group sessions and therapies.

NEW CHAPTER MASSAGE (NELL BURNHAM)

Whether you’re seeking relief from tension or a moment of tranquility, New Chapter is here to help. Nell is a Level 3 qualified Massage Therapist whose mission is to create a space for women going through life changes to take time to care for and reconnect with themselves. Nell offers highly adaptable and holistic ‘firm and flowy’ massage therapy, always tailoring her massages to suit your unique needs.

New Chapter was named for Nell's love of reading and its home on the doorstep of Hay-on-Wye, the UK's town of literature—but also in recognition of the many beautiful (and sometimes challenging) phases we go through as women. Nell has always felt a calling to improve the lives of women in her community, and massage has become her tool to do so. Our bodies and minds go through so many changes that can leave us feeling powerless—whether that’s period pain and PMS, menopause or perimenopause, pregnancy, fertility trouble or pregnancy loss, relationship break down, mental health issues, chronic stress, motherhood, grieving, a diagnosis, or simply growing older… the list goes on. Massage can be healing, uplifting and beneficial for us all, mentally and physically. Nell knows from her own experience of recurrent pregnancy loss how healing and life-affirming touch and massage can be, and it was this experience that started her journey to New Chapter. She believes massage and relaxation can help you navigate whatever your new chapter is with renewed strength and self-compassion.

Nell is with us most Tuesday and holds adhoc weekend massage clinics at Larchwood on a regular basis.

CERI ELMS - ELMS WELLBEING

Ceri is an antenatal, hypnobirthing, pregnancy yoga and postnatal teacher with over 8 years experience supporting and educating mothers and parents in pregnancy, birth and beyond in the Brecon Beacons. She creates mother-centred, baby and child led sessions with holistic support, relaxation, wellbeing, connection and community at the heart. Ceri offers accessible birth preparation with an holistic focus, alongside a continuity of care with nurturing baby classes, ecotherapy and nature sessions and children's yoga.

Ceri's antenatal and postnatal classes are designed to help you to feel relaxed, respected and supported, clued-up, informed about all of your options with realistic expectations about pregnancy, birth and matresence, and connected to your mind, body, nature and the seasons.

Ceri strongly believes in the power of preparing holistically for birth, guiding you to know your options, tune into your ideals and non-negotiables, and practice techniques to help you feel calm, relaxed, confident, able to release and surrender to birth and to trust in your body, your instincts and the process of birth itself. This is where Hypnobirthing comes in, a powerful and very effective antenatal and birth preparation method that prepares your mind and body for birth and is as much about the physiology of labour as it is about breathing, movements, positivity anchors and relaxation.

Ceri believes that Children's Yoga is the perfect activity to nurture curiosity about their own bodies, movement, their minds, feelings, emotions and the world around them, whilst they are immersed in story, play and having fun. Yoga practice helps build stronger, more resilient, compassionate, empathetic, creative and self-aware children, who focus and concentrate better, feel happier, have the skills to regulate their own emotions and calm themselves, and understand the importance of their own health and wellbeing.

HATTIE DUKE - HEARTHLIGHT

My name is Hattie and I welcome you to the woods around Larchwood Studio to find out more about 'the nature of your story and the story of your nature'. I offer holistic one to one sessions rooted in ancient and contemporary wisdom from Ecotherapeutic Practices and Lifestory Work (also known as Biographical Counselling).

I am a qualified and experienced Steiner Waldorf Teacher, and Forest School leader, specialising in nature arts, crafts and language. I use story and poetry in Spanish and English. These skills are woven into the individual sessions especially when working with mothers and fathers or with childhood experiences.

These one to one sessions can be especially helpful at moments of transition, life thresholds, periods of depression and anxiety, or when searching for a sense of purpose, to find our way back to our inherent gifts.

The combination of methods supports you to find the treasures in your life and discover the harmony between past, present and future. We might use movement, dialogue, poetry, colour, simple woodland crafts and rituals, silence, writing or a combination of all these as guides in our work together.

I have lived much of my adult life off grid in the wonderful British countryside. As well as my formal training I consider this lifestyle as well as my low impact travels and work around the world to be the equal part of my qualification as a therapeutic practitioner. (My formal training was with the Natural Academy, Bristol and the Professional Association of Biographical Counsellors (PABC), Stroud)

I am mother of twin boys and a large part of my life and work is celebrating the unseen work of mothers. I offer regular Mother Nature Circles and Retreats in our woodland ‘Nemetona’ (Celtic Goddess of Sacred Havens) situated just down river at Bredwardine.

Hattie runs 1:1 sessions at Larchwood Studio in our woodland, For more information please contact www.hearthlight.co.uk

FRAN HIGGINSON - DANCE, MOVEMENT, FLOOR WORK, EARTH FLOW

What people say about Fran’s classes

‘There is no expectation, and movement is always deeply personal. Sometimes the mood between a group of dancers is quiet and inward, and we respond with small, sensitive ‘still’ movement. At other times Fran facilitates playful, expressive improvisation or movement phrases.

Thanks to Fran I now know how to fall safely and easily to the ground from standing, or to backwards roll safely, take the weight of my body on my hands.. there are a myriad of intricate patterns that have given myself and fellow dancers greater strength, balance, body confidence and wellbeing’ Sarah Price

‘It’s quite unlike anything I’ve experienced before, being meditative, supportive, creative, explorative and collaborative in equal measures.. She encourages us to approach challenges with curiosity and playfulness. This approach supports a much deeper learning and collaboration, acknowledging the unique perspectives and experience that each of us brings.’ Heulwen Hudson

Fran runs classes at Larchwood Studio, For more information please contact 0798 414 3873 franhigginson@yahoo.co.uk
