FIELD CAMPING in hay-on-wye FOR CAMPERS WITHOUT motor vehicles
The main field campsite is open from the beginning of April.
14TH AUGUST 2026: DUE TO HOT WEATHER AND DROUGHT CONDITIONS WE ASK THAT NO CHARCOAL BARBEQUES OR WOOD FIRES ARE USED ON THE SITE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. CAMPING STOVES OR GAS BARBEQUES MUST BE USED WUTH EXTREME CAUTION. ALWAYS:
MOUNTED AT LEAST 18 INCHES ABOVE GROUND ON STEADY LEGS OR A METAL STAND/TABLE
MUST BE ATTENDED AT ALL TIMES BY AN ADULT
THE USER SHOULD BE FULLY CLOTHED AND WEARING SHOES (TO ENABLE THEM TO STAMP OUT ANY SPREADING FIRE OR RUN FOR HELP)
MUST FAMILIARISE THEMSELVES WITH THE LOCATION OF FIRE POINTS, FIRE BEATERS, WATER BUCKETS AND THE WATER SOURCE ON THE SITE BEFORE USING COOKING APPLIANCES
MUST USE ONE OF THE BUCKETS PROVIDED ON SITE TO HAVE A FULL BUCKET OF WATER ON HAND AT THEIR PITCH BEFORE USING COOKING APPLIANCES OR HAVE A FIRE BLANKET AND FIRE EXTINGUISHER OF THEIR OWN READY TO USE IF NECESSARY
PLEASE ENSURE THAT APPLIANCES ARE TURNED OFF WHEN TASK IS COMPLETED. PLEASE TURN GAS BOTTLES TO THE OFF POSITION WHEN NOT IN USE
Arriving on foot or by bicycle?
For campers arriving on foot, or by bicycle you will be accommodated in a small orchard or on the main campsite. You can specify on the booking form, or we will allocate you an available pitch at either area depending upon availability
The orchard is a peaceful camping space a 5-10 minute walk from Hay town centre. The orchard has direct access to The Wye Valley Walk wyevalleywalk.org and Offas Dyke Path nationaltrail.co.uk
The field camping pitches have a lovely view of Hay-on-Wye, which is just a 5-10 mins stroll away.
Facilities include a good hot shower, a place for washing up, use of a fire pit if you need one and use of 2 compost toilets. All facilities are well maintained – soaps and shampoos are provided in the shower. Washing up liquid at washing up station, rubbish and re-cycling collected daily, compost toilets are well maintained and cleaned.
The Main campsite is also a lovely spot about the same easy distance from Hay-on-Wye Town. On the main campsite you will have access to a super toilet and shower block as well as fun outdoor camp showers and additional compost loos. You can request to be on either site or we will allocate you a pitch – but without a vehicle you will be paying a reduced price.
There is no charge for dogs – dogs must be kept on a lead or tethered at all times. Please pick up and dispose of dog poo responsibly ( a bin is provided for bagged dog poo).
Prices include hot showers and washing up facilities.
All water is drinking water, cold water sinks are also provided.
Hot showers are always available at the main campsite during frosty weather.

Family pitches
Shower and toilet block close by at the Larchwood Studio complex, plus additional hot showers and washing up facilities and compost loos on the field itself - we have a strict shoes-off policy in the main shower block so feel free to bring clean indoor shoes such as sliders or flipflops
Mains water points throughout the site
Braziers for open fires and cooking on most pitches (During Hay Festival we are unable to supply all pitches with a fire pit we therefore supply them upon application for a modest charge) PLEASE READ the advice for camp fires here.
Firewood for sale from Ros and Geoff between the hours of 4 and 6pm: to pre-book so it’s ready for your arrival, text or email Ros on 07966420822 or Geoff 07848040430 or email geoff@geodomes.com stating your pitch number.
Electric point for charging phones and small devices
N.B. We do not offer electric hook up and we do not have any disposal facilities for chemical toilets
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead or tether at all times

The River Wye: The banks at Racquety Farm are not available for dog walking, picnicing or swimming - they are managed for wildlife conservation and for this reason we do not allow recreational access to the river bank at all. Please do not access the river bank at Racquety Farm.
NO SWIMMING AVAILABLE FROM RACQUETY FARM BANKS, therefore we respectfully ask that you do not do so.
